Create A Routine For Your Piggy

Pigs love structure and following a daily routine. They learn them quickly and follow them to a T!

Start the day off right!

If you work everyday away from the house and there will not be anyone home with them while you’re gone, be sure to spend time with your piglet in the morning before you leave. Love on them, talk to them, and give them breakfast. Before you leave, be sure they have PLENTY of water that they can’t knock over!! Provide sunlight & shade if they’re outdoors! As you leave, give them a treat they can munch on for a while such as a salad or half of an apple so they have something to focus on instead of your departure! If you give them halved strawberries, scatter them around their pen or living space so they can forage for them and keep them busy!

If you’re home – create a routine for them to follow each day! Such as:

  • Wake up and have breakfast!
  • Enjoy play time and spending time outside with them. Create a small pen they can spend time in each day that gives plenty of shade and sun! Provide an igloo or some sort of hutch they can crawl into for nap time or if it starts raining!
  • Bring them inside for lunch or a snack and some play time!
  • Nap time
  • Let them play outside or come in for a few hours with you while you cook and prepare dinner. They love to be with you and follow you each step of the way!
  • Give them dinner, outside time to potty and decide your evening routine – my pig loves snuggle time after her dinner. She cries at the rocking chair for me to come pick her up, wrap her in a blanket, and rock her for an hour EVERY night until I tuck her to sleep in her room for the night.

Be sure to feed them around the same time every day and keep their diet pretty regular. No table foods except for fresh veggies and fruit. 😉
